YSR Congress leader Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, in a scathing attack on the Congress, called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh “inefficient” and squarely blamed him for the falling democratic values in the country.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he charged the Congress government with making a mockery of the bifurcation issue.
Stating that he was an MP for three times, Mr. Venkateswarlu said he had never seen members attacking fellow parliamentarians and use of substances such as pepper spray.
“The prestige of the country has taken a beating in the world forum,” he said.
There were differences of opinion, but we had sorted them out through meaningful debate and not through acts of violence, he said.
Mr. Venkateswarlu pointed out that the way the President had endorsed the A.P. Reorganisation Bill without making any changes showed the wrong intentions of the Congress.
“The bifurcation process has no scientific purpose and the issue has been raised only for political gains by the Congress. The division or reorganisation of any State should be done either by a resolution of the State Assembly or by the State Reorganisation Committee. In this case, none is considered,” he said.
Dig at NaiduLashing out at TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, the YSRC leader opined that the role of Mr. Naidu had been reduced to that of a pawn in the entire bifurcation game.
“Till date, the TDP president is talking of equal justice for both the regions and not voicing support for Samaikyandhra,” he said.
“The Supreme Court is the last hope for integrationists. We now have to file a petition in the Apex Court.
“Once the T Bill is passed, we hope the court would reverse the decision of Parliament,” he said.
Pointing out that YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was the only leader to tow the Samaikyandra line from the very beginning, he added that the Congress-BJP nexus was exposed in the recent Delhi Assembly concerning the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Vijayawada Central in-charge P. Gowtham Reddy spoke.
