In a novel programme Congress leaders explained to Assamese passengers the ‘gross injustice’ the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meted out to the newly-bifurcated State of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President N. Raghuveera Reddy along with several party leaders spoke to the passengers of Guwahati Express going from Karnataka to Assam and told them not to believe the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They warned them against voting for the BJP in the ensuing elections.
Those who participated in the campaign included N. Tulasi Reddy, Lingamsetti Eswara Rao, Malladi Vishnu, Akula Srinivas Kumar, Mahila Congress leader Sunkara Padmasree, Youth Congress leaders Manas Mallik and Devineni Avinash. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy got into a compartment and distributed pamphlets to the passengers. He told them that the people of Andhra Pradesh were badly cheated by Mr. Modi.
This is the beginning of a campaign Mr. Raghuveera Reddy announced in New Delhi where he went with 300 Congress leaders to handover one crore signatures from people of the state demanding Special Category Status. He said that Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders and workers would go to all states that were going to elections and tell the voters there how the people here were cheated.
He told the passengers that the BJP and Telugu Desam Party got votes from the people of Andhra by promising the Special Category Status. The Union Government was bound to implement all the provisions incorporated in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act, but all that the Prime Minister brought when he came to lay foundation stone for a new capital was just some soil from Parliament House and water from Yamuna River. The Congress party was fighting with the Centre demanding grant of special category status to the State, he told the passengers.
The Congress workers, who gathered outside the Vijayawada Railway station went in a procession to Platform No.7 and waited for the train to arrive and campaigned against the BJP.
