The ruling Congress party was impoverishing the State by taxing the people heavily, YSR Congress leader Y. S. Sharmila has said. She said no other State was collecting such a high VAT on textiles.

The padayatra being taken out by Ms. Sharmila entered Vijayawada city and Krishna district from Guntur district on Prakasam Barrage on Tuesday evening. Supporters and followers gathered on a large-scale on the 1.8 km. barrage to accord a tumultous welcome to her.

The police had to close the barrage completely because of the heavy crowd. Ms. Sharmila addressing a public meeting in front of Kaleswara Rao market charged the Congress and Telugu Desam of colluding in their effort to impoverish the people of the State, particularly the poor. She charged TDP leader N.Chandrababu Naidu of being the most corrupt person in the State.

The Congress party which was brought back to power by her father and former Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy had forgotten him.

The welfare schemes that were introduced by Dr. Reddy had brought the party back to power, she said.
