Congress leaders said they had “no illusions” whatsoever about any special treatment for Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget that would be announced on Thursday.

PCC secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji said that one look at the Railway budget was sufficient for him to predict that there would be nothing for Andhra Pradesh in the Union budget too.

Bullet trains

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that he would get Bullet Trains to improve the connectivity of the state with mega cities, but even ordinary trains for which there were long pending demands had not been sanctioned.

The state was given an empty hand, he said.

The erstwhile Congress government had promised to cover up the Rs 10,000 crore annual deficit Andhra Pradesh was going to face.

There were no indications the ruling BJP government at the Centre would come to the rescue of the State.

There were reports in the media that Mr Naidu met nine Union Ministers in one visit and that Central Government funds would pour into the state, Mr. Sivaji said.
