Concern over acute water crisis

December 26, 2011 01:45 pm | Updated 01:45 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

District officials had a tough time answering queries raised by public representatives over diversion of funds and grounding of welfare schemes at the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting.

Opposition MLAs alleged that funds allocated under Central Government-sponsored schemes were being diverted and drinking water problem was acute in several mandals even before the onset of summer.

At the meeting here on Saturday, TDP leader and Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said even as the Krishna was flowing in the district, the government was not in a position to supply protected drinking water to villagers in Ibrahimpatnam, Kethanakonda, Machavaram, Kotikalapadu, Mulapadu and other areas.

Nandigama MLA T. Prabhakar Rao said there was no potable water to Jujjuru and in Turlapadu village.
