Minister for Agriculture Kanna Lakshminarayana on Monday said that the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) had taken up a Comprehensive Drinking water scheme estimated at a cost of Rs.500 crore to meet the needs of people for the next 30 years.
Once the scheme is completed, GMC would be able to supply water for 10 hours per day, said Mr. Lakshminarayana.
Participating in a Rachabanda programme at KVP Colony and Joseph Nagar areas in Guntur city on Monday, the minister listed out the welfare schemes – Re.1-a- kg rice, Indiramma Housing Scheme, pensions for widows, physically handicapped and artists, free loans to Self Help Groups, Rajiv Arogyasree – and appealed to the eligible poor to avail the schemes.
GMC Commissioner K.Venkateswarulu said the corporation had taken up various development works, at a cost of Rs.4 crore in 27th division. Government will issue ration cards to all eligible applicants soon, he said.
Later, the minister distributed ration cards, pensions and ‘Bangaru Talli’ certificates to the beneficiaries at the Rachabanda meeting.
GMC Additional Commissioner K.Srinivasulu and officers of various departments participated.
