Committee set up on sale of red sanders

Over 2,000 metric tonnes of precious wood will be sold

The State government on Friday set up a committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Environment, Forest and Science and Technology) to work out the modalities for selling 2,025.518 metric tonnes of red sanders in log form through global e-tender cum e-auction in the next phase.

The committee comprises Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forestry Force, Secretaries of Finance and Industries and Commerce Departments, Additional Secretary of Law Department and the Special Secretary of Environment, Forest and Science and Technology Department as members.

Convener

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (production) is the nodal officer and Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the A.P. Forest Development Corporation member – convener.

The committee is mandated to chalk out a strategy for sustainable marketing of the precious wood while taking the present auction forward.

It may be noted that the Director General of Foreign Trade had permitted the the State government to export nearly 8,585 metric tonnes of red sanders in form of logs out of confiscated stocks available with the government either by itself or through any other authorised entity by the end of April 2017.
