Comedy playlet fest from tomorrow

Nine playlets, hasyavadhanam , jokes, skits and dance jugalbandi will mark the 22nd comedy playlet festival organised by Sumadhura Kala Niketan at Siddhartha Auditorium here from August 4 to 6, according to Sumadhura Committee president Samanthapudi Narasaraju here on Wednesday.

The cultural unit, which was formed in 1973, is also celebrating its 44th anniversary.

He said drama troupes from Kanuru, Chikalapuripet, Kakinada, Pamarru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and New Delhi were shortlisted by the scrutiny panel of the committee. “Our aim is to give a clean comedy to the denizens,”he added.

Memorial awards

Advisor of the Committee M.C. Das said that three memorial awards will be bestowed upon veteran movie and theatre artists. “Jandhyala memorial award will be accorded to famous actor Giribabu, late Radhakumari memorial award will go to M.S Saroja and late S. Kabirdas memorial award will be presented to veteran stage actor Vankayala Satyanarayana”.

Day One will witness ‘Vammo Guttonkayi’.., ‘Akka Alugudu...Chelli Sanugudu..’, Tookka Tesaru and day two will see the staging of Sarita… Swatimutyam, Sundari… Subba Rao, Vennelochindi and Okko Roju Inte. The final day will see staging of ‘Anaganaga Oo Office’ and ‘Take it easy’.

The Sunday morning will see artists performing hasyavadhanam, jokes and skits along with dance jugalbandi, said organising secretary P.S.N. Murthy.
