The junior, degree and engineering colleges across the 13 districts of Seemandhra region will remain closed on Thursday as part of the ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation.
Addressing the mediapersons here on Wednesday V. Joshi of Seemandhra Educationist Joint Action Committee said, “We will not observe the Teacher’s Day, birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, instead observe a bandh in protest against the Congress Working Committee’s decision to bifurcate the State.
He said that lecturers, principals and students from all private, corporate, government and aided colleges will take part in the bandh. The profile of the colleges that were likely to join this agitation includes junior colleges, degree colleges, all professional colleges, engineering colleges and State-run industrial training institutes.
Mr. Joshi pointed out that the CWC had taken the decision in haste and without giving a thought on how it would affect the students. “The agitation has affected the students badly. Moreover, Hyderabad is the hub for civil services and APPSC coaching, and the students from Seemandhra region will lose time, if the bifurcation takes place,” he said.
Students and teachers will observe ‘rasta roko’ near their colleges. The APNGOs leader K. Vidyasagar, who was present at the meet, pointed out that 5.2 crore Telugu people in the Seemandhra region had a very clear thought about the Samaikyandhra movement, but the political leaders lacked clarity.
When a scribe pointed out that a Minister had said that APNGO leaders also should tender their resignation before asking the leaders to resign, he said, “We are all salaried employees and there is a huge difference between us and the politicians. We would be glad to be dismissed if we fail in our endeavour. But, on the other hand the leaders had already failed and the people rejected them, as the 21 parliamentarians were not able to come onto one platform to take up the cause of a united State,” he said.
