The Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government College of Music and Dance, whose students are in a protest mode currently against use of the college premises for private purposes, is not only being misused largely but had also been subjected to face litigations.
Thanks to the politically backed and other private organisations that are adversely using the college’s ground for various programmes not only disturbing the college activity but also the neighbourhood.
The stage in the ground of the college often hosts various cultural programmes in the interest of students of the college as well as denizens. With a variety of classical dance and song programmes, plays and others regularly, the ground provides an opportunity for artists as well as art lovers.
However due to certain non-cultural programmes, including large-scale religious events, held in the grounds in the past couple of years drew ire of locals who moved courts against noise pollution from the activity.
College Principal K. S. Govindarajan told The Hindu that due to the organisers who used extremely loudspeakers for hours together residents in the nearby areas had approached courts several times complaining of sound pollution. “We responded to the cases and brought stay order,” he said. “Though it was the organisers who used loudspeakers we were served court notices,” he added saying that programmes relating to cinemas were objected to by locals earlier. There are also other pending cases with the district courts regarding the same. It is learnt that courts were approached over use of loudspeakers during the 10-day long religious programme held last year which was also organised this year.
Meanwhile, students fear that such events not related to their courses may tarnish the image of college.
On several occasions, locals moved courts over noise pollution and many cases are still pending
