Acharya Nagarjuna University entered into an understanding with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Priate Limited of Guntur to implement a system for rainwater harvesting on the 300-acre university campus with the active participation and implementation jointly by an NGO and university engineering department.
University Registrar M.V. N. Sarma signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Coca-Cola company to benefit the university campus and the villages downstream by replenishing water sources with rainwater and to improve ground water level. The proposed project will help recharge the depleting ground water levels from the upcoming monsoon season.
To coincide with the World Water Week, the ANU Registrar signed MoU with Durai Murugan, Factory Manager, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Y R Haragopal Reddy, Rector K.V.Rao University Engineer Krisnam Raju, Department of Geology Head Sankara Pitchaiah, and Sri. Deepak Kaul, Region Vice President (South India) of Coca-Cola.
While entering the MOU, Mr. Deepak Kaul, said “Coca-Cola Company” had always believed in protecting and preserving water bodies and thereby the environment. This project with a 30,000 KL water recharge potential will help the university campus to become water surplus in terms of water usage. “The water levels on the university campus had been depleting every year and this initiative would help in raising the ground water level considerably, which also reduces the stress on the ground water even during the summer,” said by Mr. M.V.N Sarma.
