The Opposition parties and associations flooded Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy with memoranda and representations in Vijayawada on Thursday.
Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary Akkineni Vanaja and others submitted a memorandum listing 18 issues, including Pulichintala project, Polavaram project, super specialty hospital, setting up of agro-based industries, and increasing the old age and widow pensions to Rs.2,000 from the existing Rs.200.
CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar urged the Chief Minister to release Rs.165 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme pending with the State Government. He also opposed 51 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector, and hike in RTC charges.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State general secretary and Pamarru constituency in-charge Varla Ramaiah urged Mr. Reddy to take measures to open a rythu mazaar in Pamarru town in view of the problem that the people were forced to go to Vuyyuru, Gudivada and nearby places to purchase vegetables.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) city president Muvvala Venkata Rama Subbaiah highlighted the delta farmers’ problem.
Due to non-release of waters, the farmers were unable to take up agricultural operations on 13 lakh acres in the district, he said and sought release of water immediately.
Construction of flyover near Ajithsinghnagar and appointment of an IAS officer to Kanaka Durga temple were some of the other demands.
Chamber of Real Estates Welfare Association stated that layouts of thousands of acre s were not regularised though requisite taxes and fee had been paid. Setting up of a single window system to clear layout proposals was required, the Association leaders said.
