Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said here on Monday that girls would do better than boys in education given the necessary support and encouragement.
Mr. Naidu was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Badikostha’ programme.
Addressing the students and parents, Mr. Naidu called on parents to ensure that their children did not discontinue education and said the government would help reduce the dropout rate under the Badikostha programme.
“We are developing all the government schools on par with corporate schools. Soon parents will vie for seats in the government schools,” he said. “The TDP government distributed cycles to girl students in 2003. Later the scheme was discontinued by the Congress government. As many as 1,81,556 cycles will be distributed now to students of 5,628 schools including 246 government schools, 4,432 ZP schools, 319 municipal schools, 471 aided schools and 160 model schools at a cost of ₹74.93 crore,” Mr. Naidu said.
“There should be no discrimination of girl children and they should be given equal opportunity. The government would extend all support to them towards their education,” he said adding that ‘Ammaku Vandanam’ programme would be introduced in schools soon.
Later, some students interacted with the CM and Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao. Minister for Marketing C. Adinarayana Reddy, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, Commissioner of School Education Sandhya Rani, Principal Secretary of Social Welfare S.S. Rawat, Principal Secretary of Tribal Welfare S.P. Sisodia, district Collector Babu A. and others were present.
