Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged people of capital region, especially those in Vijayawada not to hike rental and land values and said that high land value could be a hindrance to the development of the region.

The State Government was creating a world-class ecosystem in the new capital and people play a crucial role in the overall development of the city, he said. Providing necessary infrastructure, including social life and entertainment options should be accorded top priority, he said while mediapersons on the sidelines of inauguration of a private super speciality dental hospital in Vijayawada on Wednesday asked some questions.

He called upon the people to embrace change and transform Vijayawada into a cosmopolitan city. “Petty things should not be considered and building owners should not exploit conditions to reap benefits. In fact, one should make few sacrifices for the cause of capital’s development,” said Mr. Naidu.

Hyderabad developed into a big city in a phased manner and there was a lot of land available for companies and others to set up their units. In the past, people from this region went to Hyderabad as land was available at affordable price. But the scenario is completely different here and land values and rental values are on par with other metros and this is not a good sign, he opined.

“Even in Singapore land is affordable. Compared to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada is lagging behind in terms of development especially because of high land values,” said Mr. Naidu. On the probability of invoking Rent Ceiling Act, the Chief Minister replied in negative and said that people should volunteer in few measures and should not hike rents and land values abnormally.
