Importance of psychologists has increased manifold thanks to the Indian population aping the west in its lifestyle or population chasing the dream of a fast buck inspired by misplaced parental aspirations. Living away from reality or in fantasy world to a large extent is leading to the current stressful life conditions as people's unfulfilled aspirations become a big burden on their thought process, opines clinical psychologist M. Sasi Kiran. Talking to The Hindu , he differentiates the conditions under which a person needs help from a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist – a subtle difference that many fail to understand further worsening their own condition at the cost of losing precious time in life. “In Andhra Pradesh the most affected population today was the student community that was unable to decide on its career and losing its creativity due to severe stress being imparted on it in the corporate colleges,” the medical college professor opined.

Marital discords were the next highest factor for psychological disorders and then followed by several other conditions, he observed pointing out that students needed to take to this aspect of medical education and make it their career. A branch of psychology - Clinical psychology is concerned with the assessment and treatment of mental illness, abnormal behaviour and psychiatric problems. This field integrates the science of psychology with the treatment of complex human problems – in another way while it broadly deals with thoughts in minds (software), the psychiatrists deal with biological/physiological conditions in curative aspects, he observes and hopes people understand its importance on the World Mental Health Day.

Assessing the psychologically the mental status of any patient getting treated under any specialist, remains the job of a clinical psychologists that helps the treating doctors take the right decisions even in dosage of medicines. Those closer to reality, and not in fantasy, were the fit cases to be advised by the clinical psychologists and their job beings with assessing personality, IQ, psychodiagonostics, neuropsychological, and projective tests so that psychological management could be taken up.
