Class Ten Examinations began in the district on Monday with 64, 952 students appearing for the examinations held in 103 centres.
District Educational Officer Parvathi said that examinations passed off without a glitch. Special permission was secured from the Government to let students in to the hall up to 30 minutes from the commencement of examinations. This was to fecilitate students from far-off areas to reach the centres. She, however, advised the students to reach the centre at least half-an-hour before the start of the examinations to avoid unnecessary complications.
Out of 64, 952 who have appeared for examinations, 44, 546 were regular students. The DEO also said that an enquiry was being conducted against a private school management for the delay in submitting the answer scripts.
Meanwhile, the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL), Guntur circle has deferred the power cut timings in the evenings from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The new timings would be in effect from March 22-25 in view of the ongoing Intermediate Examinations. The scheduled power cut earlier was from 4 p.m to 5 p.m.
Student debarred
The Class-X examinations commenced in West Godavari district on Monday amidst tight security against mass copying.
Around 50,500 candidates attended the examination on the first day. Collector A. Vani Prasad and District Revenue Officer Mohan Raju inspected the examination centres at different places.
The administration had provided basic amenities such as drinking water at the centres.
Regardless of the claims by the administration over the arrangements, students complained that they were forced to take their exam without furniture like chairs and desks in Tadepalligudem area.
The candidates in Bhimavaram area complained that they re were not issued additional sheets sufficiently. A flying squad debarred a student in a school in Eluru after he was caught while committing malpractices.
The squad found as many as 10 mobile phones at the same centre. Taking serious note of the irregularities, Secretary, School Education, Poonam Malakondaiah directed the district Education authorities to initiate action against the invigilators also for their reported failure to check the malpractices at the centre where the candidate was caught red handed.
The officials from the Education department are reportedly facing resistance from the teacher organisations while executing the orders from Ms. Malakondaiah.
