Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Ministerial Employees’ Association has appealed to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to consider payment of salaries to the employees of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation through treasury.
Memo submitted
In a representation to Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, association president D. Eswar said for the last three years, the municipal corporation employees were being paid salaries at least three months late due to resource crunch.
The government had taken over the burden of salary bill to all the urban local bodies but Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was excluded from them along with Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad corporations. Vijayawada could not be equated with Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam due to former’s poor revenue earnings, he said. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation had forwarded its resolution for payment of salaries through treasury but government was yet to take a decision.
The retired employees’ plight was even worse due to non-payment of terminal benefits like gratuity, leave encashment, commutation.
About Rs.18 crore were due to 250 retired employees and 30 of them had died without realising their retirement benefits, he said.
