Civic body starts preparing DPRs for ‘greater city’

VMC invites consultants for preparation of financial and technical details

Towards materialising the proposed merging of 45 villages surrounding the city into the greater city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has commenced the process of preparing detailed technical and financial project reports (DPR) for the creation of basic amenities and social infrastructure in the contiguous villages and the existing city.

Even before the State government had formalised the proposal of the merger as instructed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu five months ago, the civic body began looking for engineering and planning consultancies that could prepare the DPRs for public health projects, public infrastructure and civic amenities as required.

The VMC had invited proposals from interested parties a couple of days ago. The Corporation wants the participating consultant to come up with the DPRs in five categories based on the type of the infrastructure and the type of the funding.

According to the Request For Proposal (RFP) document, creation of water supply system, stormwater drainage, underground sewerage, roads, commercial complexes, slaughterhouse, parks, playgrounds, stadiums, graveyards, flyovers, roads, bridges, BRTS and others include the infrastructure expected by the civic body.

The selected consultants would have to prepare a feasibility report, detailed design and investigation report after carrying out field surveys, it is stated.

A pre-bidding meeting will be held on February 21 and the proposals have to be submitted on February 28.

Eight divisions

On the other hand, the civic body has planned to divide the greater city into eight administrative divisions based on the population and topography.

The State government has in-principle given its nod to the civic body to go ahead with the planning and providing basic infrastructure in the contiguous villages.

The civic body has already surveyed several surrounding villages regarding the underground drainage system. The government had a year ago announced the city as Metropolitan Area merging 19 surrounding villages only to facilitate the Amaravati Metro Rail Project.
