Going all out to achieve total pass percentage as well as more number of 10/10 GPA scores in the upcoming SSC examinations, the civic body has taken up an unprecedented programme to train its Class X students this year.

The corporation has recently launched three special residential camps wherein about 200 students are being trained by the municipal school teachers and tutors who were recruited by the corporation recently.

As many as 90 top performers in all the municipal schools are put together as 10/10 GPA batch in the residential camp at the C.V.R. Municipal High School, Governorpet.

Last year, though the number of 10/10 GPA scores has increased the overall pass percentage came down by 2%. This has forced the officials to focus on slow learners and irregular students this year and two separate camps are being run for such students this year.

While about 30 girls are getting trained at the BSRK Municipal High School, Moghalrajpuram, about 80 boys are getting trained at the A.P.S.R.M.C. High School, Krishnalanka.

“There are more than 150 students whose performance was poor. But all of their parents did not wish to send their wards to the residential camps. So we took in only those who came forward voluntarily,” Deputy Educational Officer (VMC) K. Durga Prasad told The Hindu . While the Municipal school teachers alone take care of all the merit batch students aiming for 10/10 GPA scores, the other two batches are being assisted and closely monitored by the 100 tutors.

Proper facilities

Each tutor will take care of a small group of students and help them overcome their drawbacks, said Mr. Durga Prasad and added that all the students are provided with proper facilities and quality food. The camps began recently. While six students got 10/10 GPAs in 2017, only one student got the top score in 2016 and 90% of the students passed the examination. On the other hand, the civic body offers free Intermediate education for all the students who secure cent per cent GPA.
