City's largest Idgah

The biggest Idgah for performing special prayers for Ramzan festival in the city was developed at Yenamalakuduru. Spread over an acre, the premises will accommodate about 12,000 people and has ample parking space, said Maulana Mohammad Dawood in a press release here on Sunday.

Members from the Muslim community in the city used to gather at Chittinagar hitherto to perform special Ramzan prayers. But the premises could accommodate only 7,000 persons and this was causing a lot of inconvenience. To address this problem, a special Idgah committee was formed and it zeroed in on the Yenamalakuduru Idgah to perform special Ramzan prayers, he said.

Lot of effort has gone into developing the Idgah. All the bushes were cleared and a ‘minar’ was constructed on the premises. In all, over Rs. 2 lakh was spent for the works, said Mr. Dawood, who will be delivering the discourse during Ramzan prayers.
