Sensing good business potential post-bifurcation, the Vijayawada IT Association is planning to construct an exclusive complex for computer and PC peripherals outlets on the lines of Chenoy Trade Centre (CTC) in Secunderabad.
There are nearly 300 registered outlets in the city that trade in computer-related components. Conservative estimates point to existence of an equal number of unorganised outlets in the city even as plans are under way for launch of close to 15 outlets shortly.
The scope for business is expected to rise significantly in the days to come. This will necessitate more space to accommodate the mushrooming growth expected in the sector. Constructing an exclusive complex will be beneficial to both customers and dealers, says Association secretary P. Ramesh Babu.
“As of now, the expected revenue generation from the registered outlets is Rs. 9 crore a month. This will go up by another Rs. 4 crore once the new outlets become operational,” Mr. Babu adds. The association sees scope for substantial business in the segment, as youngsters from Vijayawada, Guntur and Godavari districts travel all the way to Hyderabad for purchasing computers and peripherals.
“Setting up outlets here will be beneficial to buyers owing to different tax structures in the two States. This will help them save a lot of money in terms of transportation and taxation difference,” says I. Murali Venkata Krishna, Association president.
“We have invited office bearers of 13 districts to form an umbrella organisation. This apart, we will seek sanction of 2,000 square yards from the government for establishing the complex. If the government allots land, the association will take initiative in constructing the complex,” adds Mr. Krishna.
