Four students of different schools in the city were felicitated in Chennai on Sunday on emerging as city level champions in the 4th edition of ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition - English 2009-10', conducted by the Tata Group recently.
In the junior level category, K.A. Yashvantha of K.C.P Siddhartha Adarsh Public School and T. Sai Bhuvana of Noble Kids High School won the awards. In the middle level, V. Harsha Sai Madhusudan of Krishnaveni Talent School and N. Vatsalya of Gowtham Public school won the top honours.
V. Vijayakumar, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Ambedkar Law University, presented the awards, which included trophies and certificates. Around 2.5 lakh students from Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Cochin, Mangalore, Madurai, Vijayawada and Thiruvanathapuram participated in the south zone competition.
The competition was conducted by the Tata group to encourage students to showcase their skills while expressing their vision of India of the future. The English essay competition was a part of the national-level contest that has been conducted in five other languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Tamil.
The theme for the 2009-10 edition of English essay competition was “Future India” and the topic was – “What would you propose to the new government as priorities in the next five years for making India a prosperous, secure and strong nation?”.
