Eleven-year-old Shubhra Tatiya, a student of NBL Jain Public School, was conferred with National child award for exceptional achievement by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on Children's Day at New Delhi for her achievements in roller skating, according to Roller Skating Association of Krishna District general secretary Durga Prasad on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, Mr. Prasad said that award was given away by Union Minister for State for Women and Child development Krishna Tirath for the year 2010 to the talented skater.

“Shubhra has won as many as 42 medals – 24 gold, five silver and 13 bronze medals - in various district, State and National events during the last six years.

Her desire is to represent India at the international arena,” said Mr. Prasad.

Young Shubhra, after excelling in speed skating, shifted to artistic roller skating on the advice of her coach P. Satyanarayana of Visakhapatnam. “She is a regular at the national roller skating championships since 2006” and she won a gold medal in the pair dance at the 47th National Roller Skating and three in the 48th National event in figure, pair skating and in-line free style.

For the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that a skater in the age group of under-10 won three gold medals in a national event,” he added.
