The CPI(M) city unit has decided to launch a massive agitation seeking development of the city in 2012.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, party city secretary R. Raghu and State Committee member Ch. Babu Rao said the conclave discussed the party's activities in the city during the last three days. It chalked out an action plan to step up the agitation against the State and Central government policies that were plaguing the people's lives.
The party would also design a plan for pro-people comprehensive development of the city, they said. The party decided to expose the “misdeeds of Congress” and its wrong governance.
The Congress failed to keep its electoral promises, they said. The much touted JNNURM programme failed to meet the expectations of people. Leave alone development, the programme turned out to be a burden and pushing the city into a debt trap, they added.
The government completely neglected education and health sectors in the city. Hospitals and urban health centres were languishing with meagre funds and facilities, they alleged.
The government super speciality hospital was yet to see light. Many cities were making rapid strides, but Vijayawada was lagging behind with government treating it as a laboratory to test its policies.
The city was dependent on automobile and trade. But, these sectors were seriously affected due to the wrong policies of the Congress government. The city had not seen any positive development since 2005, they said.
The government was poised to privatise Bhavani Island. All these issues would be taken up in the agitations from 2012, they said.
