Chilli stocks ‘lifted' from seized cold storage unit

June 01, 2010 02:50 pm | Updated 02:50 pm IST - GUNTUR:

Barely a day after a team of State Bank of India, Debt Recovery Tribunal seized VVR Cold Storage for failure to pay dues, unidentified persons allegedly broke open the seal and lifted the chilli stocks lying on the premises.

State Bank of India Chief Manager Narayana and Assistant General Manager V.S.R. Anjaneyulu visited the premises and later in the evening lodged a police complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Guntur Rural.

In the complaint, the SBI officers charged that the unidentified persons, at the behest of directors of cold storage, broke open the seal and had taken away the stocks in gross and blatant violations of the rules and urged the police to take immediate action against the firm.

District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu also viewed the act seriously and said that entire amount which was due to the bank would be recovered from the firm using Revenue Recovery Act.

The cold storage unit had taken the loan in November 2009 after pledging the pattadar pass books of farmers, who have stored the chillies in the cold storage.

The farmers hail from Thullur, Nidumokkala, Ponnekala and Ravella villages in Amaravathi and Tadikonda mandals.

The farmers also alleged that cold storage management fooled them into surrendering their pass books and pledging their stock kept in the cold storages.
