The Forum for Child Rights in association with several government departments, agencies and other organisations is organising a week-long ‘Childline Se Dosti' campaign from Monday. This will be followed by the Child Rights Week celebrations from November 14 to 20.
Releasing a poster on the occasion, FCR vice-president Thomas Koshy said that a rickshaw campaign and a signature campaign from Tana rescue shelter, Hanumanpet would mark the beginning of ‘Childline Se Dosti' on November 8 (Monday). This would be followed by a sticker and poster campaign about 1098 (childline) service with the support of non-governmental organisations, government departments and civil society organisations on November 9.
Workshop
On November 10 a workshop for media personnel on the “Role of media in child rights advocacy and protection measures” would be held at the Tana rescue shelter. The next day street play on 1098 service and child rights would be staged in Gudivada and Jaggayyapeta in the evening.
On November 12 a school awareness programme on 1098 service would be organised at Telaprolu Bapanaiah English Medium School, which would be followed on November 13 by Suraksha Bandhan (tying of childline wrist bands to district officials, especially the police, by children) and distribution of pamphlets through newspapers.
Rally
A rally to be taken out by children from Tana rescue shelter to Lenin centre and cultural programmes to be performed by them on the Children's Day (November 14) would mark the end of the ‘Childline Se Dosti' campaign but the beginning of Child Rights Week celebrations.
The Child Rights Week celebrations include such activities as a workshop on girl child issues and protection measures in Gudivada on November 15; a workshop for district police on ‘Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Act, 2000' in Machilipatnam on November 16; a workshop for traffic police on ‘JJ Act, 2000 and other acts related to children' at Tana rescue shelter on November 17; district-level competitions for schoolchildren on child rights on November 18; district-level workshop for headmasters on ‘Ban of corporal punishment in schools' at Fr. Devaiah auditorium in Andhra Loyola College on November 19; and valedictory of the week-long celebrations at Fr. Devaiah auditorium on November 20.
Fr. Koshy said that the ‘Childline Se Dosti' campaign was being organised in line with the call given by the Childline India Foundation to popularise the number as 10-9-8.
