Child labourer, Dala Ram, who met with a road accident undergoing treatment in a hospital in Jaggaiahpet town in Krishna district on Tuesday. He succumbed to injuries later.

In a tragic incident, a child labourer, Gopa Ram (12), a native of Rajasthan, was crushed to death in a road accident in the town on Tuesday.

The victim, son of Bharath Ji, was working at Shiva Shankar tea stall. He was hit by an APSRTC bus while crossing the road.

Gopa Ram, a fourth class dropout, was staying with his brother Lata Ram, who too was working in at a tea stall near the bus station.

During a drive, the Labour Department and National Child Labour Department (NCLP) officials rescued the boy on March 4, and booked a case against the hotel owner, Hare Ram, under Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1986, said NCLP in-charge Project Director D. Anjaneya Reddy.

However, the officials could not rehabilitate the boy by providing him shelter. The hotel owner re-engaged him. Gopa Ram was produced in Open Court organised by the Labour Department on March 13, and the case was adjourned to March 20, said Mr. Reddy.

The CC camera arranged at the junction recorded the scene of the accident. The bus was coming from Jaggaiahpet to Vijayawada when the accident occurred. The Jaggaiahpet police took the driver, Muttaiah, into custody.
