Film personalities Manchu Lakshmi, Regina Cassandra and a host of other celebrities from various walks of life walked the ramp to promote a good cause at a glittering show held in Hotel Gateway on Sunday night.

The show was put together by the city-based Samana Institute for Design Studies (SIDS) to raise funds for Teach for Change, a Hyderabad-based service organisation.

The select crowd of the city’s elite invited to the show went gaga over the first-of-its kind event attended by a battery of celebrities from Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering, SIDS managing partner and chief executive officer Samana Moosavi said when she had started out, it was with a strong belief that fashion has the power to create positive change.

“I believed that fashion can be used to connect to the scores of artisans languishing in oblivion and creating a new set of local designers by building their skills and knowledge to understand the nitty-gritty of the fashion industry; train them adequately by imparting relevant skills, create a customer base and generate more jobs and revenue in the local space,” she said.

She said the students of Samana Institute were now a conscious participant in an incredible supply chain, connecting directly to artisans whose work is deeply rooted in tradition and whose work reaches thousands of elite households. “I take pride in the fact that I have used the incredible power of fashion designing to elevate the lives of at least a few women by giving them both income and more importantly, a self-identity,” she said and promised to host more such events in future.
