The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has granted permission for the Dr. NRS Government Ayurvedic College, Vijayawada, to make admissions into 30 under-graduate seats for the 2013-14 academic year after a break of two years.
The Council also announced that it had granted permission for admission into 40 under-graduate seats in the S.V. Ayurvedic College, Tirupati. It also granted permission for admission into a few post-graduate courses also in the college, but the details are yet to be announced.
The CCIM member and former Vijayawada Ayurvedic College principal M.L. Naidu told The Hindu said that the Council announced permission for admissions into the Ayurvedic Colleges at Vijayawada and Tirupati to begin with. Permission would also be granted for the Dr. BRKR College at Hyderabad and the Anantha Lakshmi Government Ayurvedic College in Warangal.
State Ayush Department and Secretary to Medical Education took a keen interest in resolving problems that had been plaguing the colleges for the past two years, he said.

The Government Ayurvedic College in Hyderabad and the Ayurvedic College run by the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in Tirupati were granted permission last year, but the colleges in Vijayawada and Warangal were not on the grounds that the faculty and facilities were not as per norms.
The Andhra Pradesh Ayurvedic Manufactures Association (AMA) president V.V.M.Krishna welcomed the efforts of the State Government to get permission for the Ayurvedic colleges to make admissions. This was essential for the continuation of the ancient system of medicine which was gaining global acceptance. The Association was looking forward to Vijayawada becoming a bigger research centre in the field of Ayurveda, he said.
