Cash awards were given to 141 students of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation schools at the 22nd cash awards function of the VMC Students Welfare Fund.
Additional commissioner P.Venkata Ramana, who was the chief guest gave away the cash awards to the students.
Mr. Venkata Ramana said 141 students getting cash awards was highly laudable. He hoped municipal school students would do even better next year.
The welfare fund secretary M.Nagalingeswara Rao said that the fund was just Rs. 48,000 in the beginning had grown to Rs. 4,47,604. He said the fund had grown in leaps and bounds with the faculty of different Municipal Schools donating to it generously.
He said Rs. 32,350 was given to the 141 students as cash awards this year. The students were also given certificates on the occasion to recognise their merit.
He said the number of English medium schools run by VMC increased to 20 this year. It was for this reason the number of students who won the cash award also increased, he said.
