Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal formally inaugurated the Bharat Nirman public information campaign at Jaggayyapet in Krishna district on Saturday.
The Parliament Member, inaugurating the three-day campaign, asked the public to be aware of better utilisation of various welfare schemes being implemented by the government. He said that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had launched many welfare and development schemes for the benefit of the rural people in the name of Bharat Nirman.
The rural drinking water, rural roads, housing, and electricity have been receiving much importance from the Central government, he said and added that despite this thousands of villages were being deprived of drinking water facility in the State. Mr. Rajagopal also said that the government, in accordance with the electoral promise, provided electricity to 1.27 lakh villages and also 1.20 lakh families. The government was giving top priority to women and child welfare by implementing Janani Suraksha Scheme and it introduced Sarva Siksha Abhiyan scheme for better infrastructure facilities at educational institutions to bring quality in education and also for better atmosphere in the institutions.
These two schemes had literally changed the face of rural India, he opined. Jaggayyapet MLA Sriram Rajagopal, and officials including Press Information Bureau Additional Director General M.V.V.S. Murthy, Song and Drama Division Regional Director Vijaya Raghavan, Additional Joint Collector N. Ramesh Kumar, District Minority Welfare Officer Ghousia Begum, Press Information Bureau Media and Communications officer P. Bharatha Laxmi, field publicity officers Hari Prasad, Venkatappaiah, participated in the programme. The local MLA flagged off the Bharath Nirman rally to mark the occasion. Hundreds of students took part in the rally.
