Krishna district Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyothi has constituted a jumbo committee with officials and non-officials to make the cultural campaign being taken up as a prelude to the World Telugu Conference at Tirupati a success.
The committee for which the Collector is the chairman has 50 officials and 62 non-officials. While Joint Collector P. Ushakumari is the vice-chairperson, additional joint collector N. Ramesh Kumar is the convenor. Vijayawada Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhana Reddy, Krishna SP R. Jayalakshmi, three IAS officers posted in the district, DRDA PD M Janaki, Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Azeem and VGTM UDA vice-chairman G.S.R.K.R. Vijayakumar are members.
Prominent among non-officials in the committee are folk artist Karnata Lakshminarayana, theatre personality Achantha Venkataratnam Naidu, former editor of Visalandhra and veteran journalist C. Raghavachari, writers Tata Ramesh, Koka Vimalakumari, Khadar Mohiddein, Patibandla Rajini, and P Venkateswara Rao, former MP Chennupati Vidya, former Mayors T. Venkateswara Rao, Jandhyala Sankar, industrialists, G.S. Raju (Siris), G. Ganga Raju, V.R. Rao Awwas, CII chairman B.S. Koteswara Rao, noted businessmen Muthavarapu Muralikrishna, M. Rajaiah and Ilapuram Raja.
Big attraction
The cultural campaign was launched in Vijayawada and Machilipatnam with rallies and other programmes. Sub-collector S. Venkata Rao flagged of the Telugu rally at Swaraj Maidan. The rally with children dressed as famous Telugu personalities was a big attraction.
Starting with Srikrishnadevarayalu, the children were dressed as the “Astaddigajalu”, the eight eminent poets and scholars in Srikrishnadevarayalu’s court.
Children also formed a human chain on the occasion. Minister for Secondary Education Kolusu Parthasarathi launching the campaign at Machilipatnam said Telugu lovers and those who have made contributions to the enrichment and development of the language should represent Krishna district in strength at the World Telugu conference.
