Call to reduce price of petrol, diesel

October 23, 2011 12:50 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 12:52 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The YSR Congress has demanded that the government reduce the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene in proportion with the reduction of crude petroleum price in the international market.

They staged a dharna in front of the Sub-Collector's office here on Friday and submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Divisional Officer. They took exception to the State government making profits through the increase in petroleum prices by imposing additional VAT on them.

YSR Congress leaders D. Ravindranath Reddy, D. Srihari, U. Anitha, and A. Sankar Reddy, in a statement, condemned the cut in the quota of subsidised (blue) kerosene and increase in its price.

The leaders said the price of petrol had been increased nine times in a period of just one year. While there should have been a Rs. 10 reduction per litre of petrol, the government had increased the price by Rs. 15, they said.
