Minister for Handlooms Kollu Ravindra on Tuesday urged people to extend patronage to the handloom sector by generously buying products made by handloom weavers.

Addressing a meeting organised in connection with the inauguration of National Handloom Expo 2015, at Swarna Vedika here, he said the handloom sector was closely associated with the Indian tradition and culture.

The Minister said though modern machines and tools had been introduced in this sector, the handloom workers stuck to their innate talent by weaving enchanting designs through ‘maggam’ work as they guaranteed supreme quality.

This is in addition to the famous Gadwal, Uppada and Venkatagiri brands from the State. The Minister said such events were organised mainly to provide a platform that paved the way for direct transactions between the artisans and buyers.

Regional Deputy Director of the Department M. Nagalakshmi, Deputy Directors K. Madan Mohan, T. Rangaiah, M. Nageswara Rao, K. Lakshman Rao and others were present.
