BSNL kabaddi tournament to begin today

Big time kabaddi comes to temporary capital of Andhra Pradesh as the 14th All India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kabaddi Tournament for men will be held at Railway Stadium from August 20 to 22, according to Senior General Manager, Krishna Telecom District V. Sundar here on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media persons, he said that Krishna telecom district was hosting kabaddi tournament for the first time. “Sports competitions in 16 events are held by BSNL and they are held on rotation. This year, we were allotted kabaddi in which seven telecom districts from all over the country are taking part”. He released the logo of the tournament.

Mr. Sundar said teams from Andhra Pradesh (including Telangana), Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu would vie for honours in the championship held in league-cum-knockout format. “Matches will be held both in mornings and evenings, under floodlights. The teams are divided into two pools,” he added.

The inaugural function will be held at Railway Mini Stadium on Wednesday in which Additional Divisional Railway Manager N.S.R. Prasad will be the chief guest. Mr. George, Chief General Manager (HR) and V. Srinivasan, Chief General Manager will preside over the function.

On the valedictory function on Friday, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation chief C. Harikiran will give away the prizes.
