Academicians and industrialists have observed that the State government should focus on agriculture and agro-based industries and getting corporate companies registered in Hyderabad back to Andhra Pradesh. They also suggested that service sector should be improved to boost investments and promote entrepreneurial opportunities in the State.

The experts took part at a seminar on “Re-visioning of Andhra Pradesh – An entrepreneurial perspective” organised by the Department of Business Administration, P.G. Centre, P.B.Siddhartha College of Arts and Science here on Friday.

Delivering key note address, Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor K.V.Rao said that Public- Private-Partnership (PPP) mode was the need of the hour. “The government should partner with private sector to take up different projects and this would provide many entrepreneurial opportunities here,” he said.

“Among many, agriculture and agro-based industries are promising sectors in the coming days. As issues like availability of quality seeds, fertilisers and pesticides and their supply remain challenges and young entrepreneurs should focus on these sectors,” he suggested.

Port development This apart, 13 districts in the State were having rich mineral wealth and they needed to be exploited. Similarly, the 972-km long coastline promises lot of potential for development of ports and tourism projects, pointed out Mr. Rao.

Noted industrialist M. Rajaiah said that it was time for the government to attract corporate companies registered in Hyderabad back to Andhra Pradesh.

Besides providing employment, it would boost the tax collections for the government, which is facing financial crunch.

“People are in false notion that land availability is a challenge in Krishna district. But there is plenty of government, forest and endowment lands at Bapulapadu, Gannavaram, Tiruvuru and other areas,” said Mr. Rajaiah.

Andhra Bank GM G. Ravi Kumar laid emphasis on service sector. “Compared to service sector contribution to country’s development, the sector’s contribution in the State is very poor,” he suggested.

Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce president V. Bhaskara Rao, Vijayawada Daily Parcel Lorry Owners Association president Ch. Vazeer, Infopark Limited CEO S. Krishna Rao and others also spoke at the seminar.
