Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pradeep Kumar and Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Ch. Syam Prasad felicitated Deputy Chief Traffic Inspector (Dy.CTI) D. Sriram Reddy for averting a fire mishap in Guwahati Express recently.
Mr. Reddy, who is working at Chennai put out the flames in the running train with a fire extinguisher on March 19 and alerted the Tenali Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) who acted swiftly.
The Deputy CTI prevented a possible mishap in the Indian Railways at Chennai earlier, said Mr. Syam Prasad.
At a felicitation programme organised here on Monday, the railway officials and the SRP felicitated the Deputy CTI, four GRP staff and four RPF personnel of Tenali station with shawls. Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar praised the brave act of the nine personnel for preventing fire and rescuing the passengers.
“Due to some technical snag, fire erupted in B6 air-conditioned coach in Guwahati-Bangalore Express train at around 7.30 p.m. On noticing flames, the Deputy CTI put off fire with an extinguisher and alerted the Tenali railway officials over phone. When the train reached the station, the GRP and RPF police made the passengers to alight safely and prevented stampede,” Mr. Syam Prasad who monitored the operation said.
“The timely action of the Deputy CTI was commendable. We will write to the authorities about the courageous act of Mr. Reddy who was on duty in another bogie and also the GRP and RPF personnel”, said the DRM.
Additional DRM S. Subba Rao said the staff on duty should be alert and service motto. Due to panic, passengers will jump from running trains and suffer injuries, and sometimes lose their lives, during accidents.
