People in this town in Krishna district, enraged over the killing of an 11-year-old boy after kidnapping him, tried to thrash the prime accused on Tuesday.
The prime accused Revu Prabhu Kumar, 21, a physically challenged person, tried to confuse the police after confessing to have killed the boy. The police began searching for boy's body at around 10 a.m. and could trace it only after 1.45 p.m.
The victim Anvesh Chandra, son of a teacher M. Ramesh, was studying in the sixth standard in Viswabharati IIT Olympiad School. People on the road lost their cool and shouted slogans demanding that the accused be killed.
They then tried to jump a wall and run through thick bushes to beat the accused when he was brought to the open space for identifying the spot where the body was buried. They lay siege to all roads as the police tried to shift the accused.
When the police tried to shift him, the infuriated crowd surrounded the jeep demanding that he be handed over to them. The police, however, managed to shift the accused to the police station.
Prabhu Kumar's mother, who was there in the house till the crowd gathered, fled the scene. His father had gone out to distribute Prabhu Kumar's marriage invitation cards. Upon learning about the crime, he did not return home. Relatives of the victim and local youth later staged a rasta roko near Nehru Chowk here condemning the murder.
