National Book Week Celebrations and exhibition of books began here at CSI Arunodaya Complex located opposite Civil Courts on Tuesday. The publishers from the city have displayed their publications for sale.

Income Tax Additional Range-1 Commissioner M.S.V.M. Prasad formally inaugurated the celebrations, being organised by the Vijayawada Book Festival Society (VBFS) in association with the National Book Trust.

He said that books were best companion of human beings. Books could change the life of a person with a strong desire. “Personality development is linked to good teachers, but unfortunately, I did not have such good teachers and the books filled that void,” he said. Kandukuri Veersalingam had once said people should not mind wearing a worn out shirt but must buy a good book. Senior journalist C. Raghavachari said that one might not become rich by buying books, but definitely the books would enrich his or her knowledge.
