Blue Colts wing to be strengthened

25 motor vehicles acquired for it

July 29, 2011 10:20 am | Updated 10:20 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Unexpected traffic jams, dug-up roads, unauthorised parking and other problems continue to crop up making commuters' life difficult. Also, schoolchildren, college students, and women face problems from anti-social elements in different areas in city.

In a bid to find quick solution to these problems, the Blue Colts wing of the city police commissionerate is being strengthened with more motor vehicles.

These patrolling personnel will be readily available at the arterial points to attend to any urgent call for preventing any traffic problem or providing help to people under attack from anti-social elements.

As many as 25 new motor vehicles have been given to the Blue Colts wing recently and these vehicles will be used to maintain patrolling in areas like Kaleswararao Market, Gollapudi, Chittinagar, Kasturibaipet, MG Road, Krishnalanka, Ramavarappadu, Satyanarayanapuram, Gunadala, Krishna Nagar, Benz Circle, Ring Road and so on. Already, every police station in city has a Blue Colts vehicle, which is being used to attend to emergency help calls.

The additional attention by the Blue Colts wing in traffic is considered necessary in view of the increasing vehicular population in city limits and also increased number of traffic problems because of various reasons including the digging of roads for pipeline works recently. Every year, 36,000 vehicles are being added in city according to records of the Regional Transport Authority. Moreover, the floating population is also increasing substantially, which is making traffic management and regulation a bit complicated. Drainage works necessitated digging of roads at One Town Police Quarters, Nirmala Convent Road and Railway SP Colony, and culvert works at Ramesh Hospital Road and pipeline works at various places in the city.

Constant vigil

Mobile patrolling vehicles will be assigned some routes on which they will keep constant vigil for ensuring smooth of traffic and also to prevent any untoward incidents from happening. They will keep a watch for movements of any anti-social elements as well. For example, traffic mobile patrolling will cover Punnami Ghat to Bhavanipuram route and several other similar routes in One Town Traffic station.

Five routes each were identified in each of the four traffic police stations in city for concentrating the movements of the mobile traffic patrolling vehicles.
