The A.P State Senior Billiards & Snooker Ranking Tournament 2013 and the LVR State Open Billiards & Snooker Tournaments began on Monday at the LVR & Sons Club and Reading Room.

Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-1, Guntur, K.S. Rajendra Kumar inaugurated the tournament in the presence of club executive committee members.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar lauded the efforts of the club in hosting the State-level tourneys for four consecutive years and said that the facilities at the club were on a par with those available at metro cities.

Later, Mr. Kumar took a shot with the cue amidst round of applause.

More than 100 players across the State are taking part in the tourney. The LVR & Sons club had the distinction of hosting several national open Billiards Tournaments. International players like, Geeth Sethi had compiled records on the tables here. The club now has three tables and the presence of players like Shankar are continuing the chequered tradition. District Sports Development Officer G. Venkateswara Rao called for greater encouragement to sports other than cricket, and said that steps would be taken to reopen the Billiards Club on the premises of B.R Stadium.

Andhra Cricket Association, Women’s Cricket Academy, president J. Narendranath, club president Myneni Ramprasad, secretary Kommineni Vinayaka Rao, treasurer B. Randhakrishna Murthy and EC member, and V. Balaji Prasad were present.
