Bifurcation of the state will not take place and we will not let it happen, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said here on Saturday.

Visiting the constituency for the first time after the Congress Working Committee took the decision to carve out Telangana, the MP led an impressive rally comprising over 1,000 motorcycles and 300 cars from the Gannavaram airport to the Indira Gandhi Statue at Challapalli Bungalow on Eluru Road, where he addressed a public meeting.

Speaking to mediapersons he said it was not easy to get the bill passed in Parliament.

Leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mamata Bannerjee will oppose the bill in their interest, as Telangana had already been fuelling the agitation for separate States to be carved out from theirs.

“Anyway, the bill cannot be placed in the monsoon session of Parliament. It has to be placed in the winter session and supporters of Samaikhyandhra will not allow the bill to be tabled. By the time the session ends, it would be election time and then the people will decide,” he said.

On the Ministers, who resigned and later took back their resignation, he said the Congress high command asked them to take back their resignation as it would be better for them to voice their concern as Ministers. Moreover, the high command has assured them of looking into the bifurcation matter.

The very move to constitute a committee to look into the problems that might be faced by the people of Andhra region post-bifurcation can be termed as the first victory for Samaikhyaandhra supporters.

The MP urged the people to come forward to support the Samaikhiya Andhra movement cutting across political affinity. He especially targeted the youth and women. Praising Youth Congress leader Devineni Avinash for taking up the agitation forcefully and organising an impressive rally, he said, that youth and women should take forward the movement.

Dig at KCR

He cautioned KCR for making a comment on employment status of Andhra people in Telangana. “The comment exposes his evil mindset. It should be an eye-opener for the high command,” he said. Former Congress MLA Deveneni Nehru in his address urged the Samaikhiyandhra supporters not to desecrate the statues of Congress leaders.

“Each statue has a history and they should be respected,” he said. Performing abhishekam with milk to the statute of Indira Gandhi, he said, it was Indira Gandhi who stood stoically during the earlier agitation for separation and advocated the cause of Visalandhra.

Earlier, at the airport Mr. Rajagopal got down from his car to hop onto a motorcycle at Ramavarappadu to lead the rally along with the youth. On the agitation plans, he said “On Sunday youth leaders from 13 districts will come to Vijayawada and the plans will be chalked out.”
