The division of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh has affected the prisoners in both the States. The jail authorities are busy in completing the formalities before the appointed day.
As many as 25 Telangana prisoners who are kept in various jails in Coastal Andhra districts have been sent back to the prisons located in Telangana districts. Prisoners of Andhra Pradesh who were sent to the jails in Telangana districts are being brought to the demarcated State of Andhra Pradesh. The A.P. Prisons Department authorities have almost completed the process.
Sharing of properties In Coastal Andhra, two central prisons, four district jails, one special jail for women and 56 sub-jails are there in seven districts (i.e. from Guntur to Srikakulam). Following directions of the government, the Prisons Department officials prepared the list of prisoners of Telangana districts.
The officials are also looking into distribution of properties to Telangana and Seemandhra States. An action plan has been prepared to strength jails in the demarcated Andhra Pradesh.
No staff transfers Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Department, A. Narasimha said about 25 prisoners of Warangal, Karimnagar, Hyderabad and Secunderabad districts have been sent to Chanchalguda, Cherlapalli and other jails located in Telangana districts.
“The convicts were brought to Andhra prisons from Telangana due to insecurity, indiscipline and other reasons. However, they were sent back in view of the division of the State,” said Mr. Narasimha.
Asked about shifting of staff, the DIG said no instructions have been received with regard to transferring of staff based on nativity.
