Students enthusiastically participated in a Telugu sobha yatra, a rally to highlight the radiance and beauty of Telugu language, in the city on Wednesday.
The rally, jointly organised by SRSV College of Education and Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Vignana Vedika, began on the college premises and culminated near statue of Viswanatha Satyanarayana, a Gnanapeeth awardee and noted Telugu poet, at Lenin Centre.
The students formed a human chain and vowed to protect their mother tongue, Telugu. “I have chosen teaching as profession, and I vow to prefer Telugu in Teaching. I also swear to protect and accord importance to Telugu and its culture," the students said in unison.
Later, college secretary Gunda Gangadhar stressed on the need for rededicating themselves for the protection of the mother tongue. It was primary duty of every Telugu to protect his/her mother tongue and pass it on to the posterity.
College committee president K. L. Narayana Rao said that parental care and parent’s way of upbringing of their children form the foundation to protect the language. To mark numerical distinction of this calendar year -12.12.2012-the students lit 12 lamps in the shape of 12, and planted 12 saplings.
The students raised slogans—‘Mummy daddy vaddu, Amma nanna muddu’, ‘Kapadukundam Telugu’, ‘Telugu bhasha vardhillali’.
College principal A. Srinivasa Murthy, D. Ed College principal Bh. Sambasiva Rao, special officer J. Nageswara Rao and others were present.
