The Id-ul-Zuha, popularly known as Bakrid, was celebrated with religious fervour here on Wednesday .The day began with Muslims, attired in their best, offering Id prayers at Idgahs and mosques.

Masjd e Quba organised special prayers at Gymkhana grounds here. The people gathered in good numbers at the grounds to offer Id ul Aza namaz. The organisers made special arrangements for the women.

Prayers for peace

During their speeches before the prayers, the imams also prayed for peace and prosperity in the country. The Muslims after returning from mosques or Idgahs sacrificed goats. Bakrid is celebrated as a festival of sacrifice.

Addressing the gathering, Hafiz Moulana Abdul Gafar Umri explained the importance of the Bakrid. The festival is about sacrifice and people should be ready to sacrifice all their belongings in the path of Allah and lead a virtuous life. They should shun sins and not be lured by worldly allurements. This is the essence of the festival, he said.
