The RE 205 M CNG, the four-stroke CNG autorickshaw from the Bajaj Auto, was launched at a function held at the Kandukuri Kalyana Mandapam here in city on Monday.

The company representatives said the new launch was aimed at capturing more market in the CNG auto category and increase its market share from the present 85 per cent to 95 per cent.

Bajaj Auto area sales manager P. Raghava Rao, who launched the model, said the new auto would have the same 3+1 capacity as the two-stroke CNG model but it would provide a comfortable ride with lesser vibrations to passengers besides giving more fuel efficiency to the owners.

He said this model was meant not just for carrying passengers to RTC bus stands, railways stations and so on, but also for transporting schoolchildren.

Varun Bajaj chief executive officer P.N. Satyanarayana, general manager Gangadhar, and Bajaj Auto area service manager P.V. Ramana also spoke on the occasion.

Mr. Gangadhar said there would be greater luggage space in RE 205M and it would have higher space to provide comfort to passengers. The introductory price has been put at Rs. 1.48 lakh (ex showroom).

Mr. Gangadhar said Bajaj autorickshaws were number one in the market already and the present launch would further strengthen their presence.

He said the model had a 200 cc long life engine and it would not burden the owners with higher maintenance costs. The vehicle is fitted with brighter indicators and also twin shock absorbers to give smoother ride, he said.

Cultural programmes and skits by artistes were organised on the occasion. The staff of Varun Bajaj, other auto owners, and drivers were present.
