The police arrested an auto driver, K. Ranga Babu, who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman, while she was going to New Government General Hospital in the city a few days ago.
Disclosing this to the newsmen here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Law and Order) G. Pala Raju said the accused lured the victim on the pretext of extending financial help to her – she was in trouble – took her to an isolated place at Enikepadu and allegedly raped her.
Following a complaint, police identified the accused through the dashboard of the Commissioner of Police. As many as 21 challans were pending against the three-wheeler, which was used for committing offences since December 2015.
‘False name’
West Zone ACP G. Ramakrishna said the accused had introduced him to the woman with a false name. But, based on the details submitted by the victim, police identified the auto in the CCTV footage and nabbed him.
Kothapet Circle Inspector N.V.S.K. Durga Rao said the auto driver and vehicle would be produced in the court.
