‘At Home’: ANU students give a slice of their roots

It is home far away from home for international students at Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Traversing thousands of miles from every nook and corner of the globe, they add multi-cultural flavour to the university. ANU has more than 300 students pursuing courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and Buddhist Studies. They bring along with them myriad hues of their rich cultural diversity and have given ANU a new identity.

During the ‘At Home’ event to help international students feel at ease with their environs on Thursday on the ANU premises, students gave the audience glimpses of their own culture.

Michael from Nigeria belted out a delightful song about the university, while Wangdi from Bhutan presented a prayer. Iraqi student Sattar spoke about the rich cultural heritage of his country from the times of the Mesopotamian culture. A lot of things in common between the two cultures have brought him to India, he said.

“Journey to India is not so easy. Unsure of the new place and new culture, we came here. We are thankful to the university for making us feel at home,” Sattar said.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, Gopinath Jatti said the Union government had been making efforts to make foreign students feel at home and provide them security.
