Police have made elaborate security for the Assembly session, which began for the first time at the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi on Monday.

Armed security forces were deployed on the banks of the Krishna right from Seethanagaram village. Personnel were posted along the route leading to the Government Complex covering the Prakasam Barrage, Venkatapalem and Mandadam villages.

Foolproof arrangements

Police arranged pickets at many places and imposed traffic restrictions and diversions. With Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers, MLAs and MLC attending the session on the first day, security was tight.

Director General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao and senior officers reviewed security at the Legislature Complex. Bomb disposal teams, sniffer dog squads and rope parties checked the Assembly building thoroughly.

Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Narayan Naik, who supervised the security at the complex, said that foolproof arrangements had been made for the VIPs attending the sessions.

Members of Police Seva Dal, Special Branch, State and Central Intelligence, Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) and other agencies were pressed into service. Marshals were seen at every point in the Legislature Complex and women police deployed at all the gates.

Parking places were arranged for visitors’ vehicles, VIPs, officials, media and police vehicles in front of the Assembly building. Many police personnel had body-worn cameras at the Government complex.

The ISW and Special Party police had been keeping a vigil in the capital region for the last couple of days. Police checked the vehicles and the visitors thoroughly before allowing them into the Legislature Complex.

“Many senior police officers of different wings are supervising the security arrangements. The security cover will continue till the Assembly session is over,” a police officer told The Hindu .

Bandobust was also arranged at the R&B Guest House in Vijayawada where the Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was staying.

Security has been beefed up at the hotels where the Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives were accommodated in Krishna and Guntur districts for attending the Assembly session, the officer added.
