In an encouraging sign, sale of eco friendly Ganesha picked up in many parts of Guntur town.
Stalls offering clay moulded Ganesha idols were found in many junctions. Students of few colleges, including Abhyudaya Women’s College took up the campaign in a big way.
Principal Rohini Devi coordinated the distribution of idols at Lakshmipuram.
The Guntur Municipal Corporation too played its part. At a programme hosted by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Municipal Commissioner K. Sudhakar gave away eco friendly Ganesha idols to citizens. Few NGOs too chipped in with their contribution.
Elsewhere, the town wore a festive look as the streets were filled with vendors selling leaves and fruits of all kinds.
Traffic snarls were reported in Kothapet where the vendors occupied the road.
